My Interview on foursquare

Last week I gave a short interview on the social location app foursquare. My interview was just a portion of a larger piece on foursquare. Check out the video of the interview below (note: that’s not my smiling face down there- that’s the awesome @chanthana!)
Lauren Drell, a bright graduate student from Northwestern, met with me to discuss some of the ins and outs of the popular mobile app. The actual interview was a bit more in depth than the little piece I got in the video, so I wanted to share some of my other responses that ended up on the cutting room floor…
As I stated in the video, I think 2010 will be a huge year for foursquare (many people believe this as well). What I warned against, however, is that foursquare is still in the early adopter phase. No certain user numbers exists yet, however Tech Crunch has estimated around 200,000 current users. Compare that to the estimated 22 million unique monthly visitors on Twitter, and over 350 million users on Facebook, and foursquare is just a blip on the radar. I mentioned that foursquare would likely see large growth in 2010, possibly fueled by celebrity use or some other noteworthy event. (Remember when Oprah joined twitter?).
Regarding businesses, I told Lauren that we’ll likely see small and local businesses getting involved first, but to not be surprised when we see large corporations realizing the value of foursquare and getting involved. This is very similar to how we saw companies getting in on twitter and social media in general. This is definitely not a new concept, but hopefully we’ll see quicker adaptation from large companies.
