Ice Sucks

Wham! Just that quick and I was on my ass leaving my house this morning. First step onto my porch- never stood a chance. I had no idea there was an ice storm, and my ignorance cost me. I scraped myself off the concrete and skated to my girlfriend’s car (she was taking me to the train this morning.) of course it was covered in ice. I grabbed a scraper and got to work, slipping and sliding the whole time. I bashed my legs a good 3 times slipping and catching them on the side of her car.

The drive to my train station was awful, even in our 4×4 Rav4. But it wasn’t nearly as bad for us as for the four people who flipped their cars, or the many folks who found themselves in ditches- including a Comcast van- and also the people who got in accidents or cars that had failed them.

And don’t get me started on the conditions of sidewalks and platforms at the Metra station.

Yeah, I’m just glad I made it to work in one-piece. Of course not having to work would have been ideal

A Green Christmas

I wrapped my Christmas presents in leftover Red Eye’s. Not only is the paper being recycled, but being from Chicago, I’m using local resources. This project deserves LEED gold certification if you ask me.

Subway’s Flat Offering

Just had one of Subway’s new flatbread sandwiches, and unfortunately it’s the flavor that comes out flat. Just absolutely does not come close to having the flavor and ingredient qualities as a Cosi flatbread, and is much less filling. But I should have expected this, right?

I bought a coffee mug for work yesterday so I wouldn’t have to use styrofoam cups each time I want a cup of joe. You’re welcome mother earth. You too, Starbucks.

Girls on the Run Gala

I’ll be attending the Girls on the Run Chicago Gala this evening. Girls on the Run is an organization set up to promote a lifetime of self-esteem and healthy living through running. The 9th annual gala will take place at the Park West in Lincoln Park. My company, WeSeed, is sponsoring the event, so I’ll be on hand demoing the site and signing up interested ladies.

Being the social media guy that I am, I’ll be twittering from the event, and including pics as much as possible. In the few days following the event, we will likely have a nice photo gallery on the WeSeed Facebook page.

Metra Makes Nice

When people think “great customer service,” Metra probably doesn’t come to mind immediately. Well, this evening Metra made nice by helping me out. Due to being late for the train this morning, I had to buy my ticket on the train- thus a $2 extra fee. Not the end of the world, I thought. Well I go to purchase my ticket for the ride home tonight, and discover I’m a measley dime short. Embarassed, and knowing Metra only accepts cash, (ugh)I asked where the nearset ATM was located. While I stewed in my own plight, the woman behind the counter seemed carefree of my situation. Yet as I was putting my money away and readying to leave, she had the heart to spot me the dime and grant me a ticket.

Here’s to you, Metra. Thank you for not sending me to an ATM over a dime.

I haven’t posted anything on this site- or over on adsponge- in quite a while. I don’t have one concrete excuse, rather several smaller factors that have led to my recent lack of content.

First, and probably most prominent, is my recent entrance into the 40-hour work week world. Add to that a roughly two hour commute to and from work each day, and it’s no wonder I haven’t had the time or motivation to blog as much.

I plan on getting back to it, however. I just went through my rss feeds in google reader and read some really terriffic posts that have inspired me to be more productive. If Chris Brogan can find time to blog daily, I can too.

With that, I vow to be more active on my beloved sites and continue on with what got me to where I am now.
