Things have been pretty hectic lately. My dad and I just finished up building our first bags set. For a couple of guys that don’t do a lot of building with wood, I’m pretty happy with how they’ve turned out. Naturally, we couldn’t have them just be a typical bags set; we’ve built in a bag collector/shoot system. Its basically a return pipe for the bags that go through the hole. It works pretty well, and looks even better. All thats left is to give these bad boys a nice paint job.

Yesterday was a pretty big day, as my girlfriend took her nursing board exam. Four years of college and countless hours studying for the exam culminated in about a two-hour exam. Her future as a nurse rides on the results of this test, which we’ll find out tomorrow. I know she passed… she’s too smart not to.

Quite a week for my girlfriend; in addition to her board test yesterday, today is her 23rd birthday. I surprised her yesterday after her test with a present; a purple 1gb iPod shuffle. Nothing huge, but I had bought her a Dell diddy mp3 player a year or two back, and never really used it because of how un-user friendly it was. So I made it up to her by getting the iPod, which is soooo much easier now since I’ve been using iTunes for my iPhone. She loves the shuffle, so I’ve been redeemed.

As I type, we’re about to go to Houlihan’s for her birthday dinner with her folks. Love that place.

Got Nascar tomorrow, getting the 3G iPhone and going to a house-warming party on Saturday. I hope to get all kinds of pictures of bags set/birthday/Nascar/iPhone up this weekend… if I find time.

Peace!

My girlfriend and I went to the Taste of Chicago yesterday and for the first time I didn’t catch fire. It was a very nice day, temps in the low 80’s and a decent breeze. Perfect eating weather! This year we attempted to stay away from the classics and try the somewhat bizarre and exotic. So the first thing we tried was coconut rice with roasted goat. Sounds really out there, but it was actually very simple. The rice really didn’t have coconut flavor, and the goat was comparable to a beef roast with some spices. Without a doubt though, the most exotic food we tried was grilled shark. Not surprisingly, it was very thick and tough; much more like pork chops than any normal fish fillet. The shark was topped with some kind of tomato-olive red sauce.

Here’s a list of what we ate:

  • Roasted corn on the cob with Cajun/Creole spices
  • Stuffed sausage pizza
  • Cheesburger from Billy Goat Inn
  • Coconut rice with Goat
  • Italian Beef from Buona
  • Gazpacho with avocado
  • Chicago-style hot dog
  • BBQ Pork and teriyaki chicken Bao
  • Tiramisu gellato

As you’ll notice, we didn’t completely stay away from the classics, but we sure tried some different foods.

What a view!

Couple of good looking kids :)

Mmm, shark!

Apparently there has been some rumblings of a follow up to this awesome movie for a while, but it seems to be hitting mainstream news just recently as I just heard about it today reading Red Eye. The big story though is determining the plot of the film. A majority of the cast was killed off in battle, and a sequel would require new blood, pun intended. A prequel, however, would allow the original cast to return, which would get my vote.
